What happened to the winter base training?

According to the classical theory of training the winter base training session, which is entitled to raise the conditional base of the top fighters, seems to have disappeared due to the flaring tournament calendar. The 5-week period between mid-December and late-January would not be enough to make an old style base training on its own. Especially not if these weeks include the end-of-the-year holidays, the physical and mental regeneration after the tournament season, and other problems of starting a new year.
On the contrary, I assume surely the necessity of the winter base training annually as there is a long way from the regeneration to top fighting form. Therefore let us try to break this controversy.
The first and foremost criterion of the theory is that the skill levels of the fighters included must be the maximum. We have the chance to achieve this only by conditional, mental, technical, tactical skills and strategy.
By the training method at the KiralyTeam applied by myself, the non-stop daily trainings and international contests with the quantity of 8-12 per year, also the active performance on national events, by a strategic and exact annual training plan in 4-5 micro period and the top form timing accordingly all make this period less significant.
What is the method?
The thematic is based on several years of tactical training. In my opinion, the slight of winter base training is only possible in case of the fighters are able to reach and, more important, to keep such a level of performance through the year by which the components of preparedness and their complex level cannot go under 85% of the top performance level. This figure is quite high, it continuously puts terrible loads on pointfighters physically and mentally, consequently the high intensity of training during the year is absolutely indispensable.
By application of this method, 4-5 top forms during the year can be achieved as by applying these thematic solutions, we are able to control the maximum performance of the fighters. If we monitor the requirements of the contest calendar, we can clearly see the fact that we should set the time of 4-5 top forms in a year. In these cases I have to train my fighters from the level of the mentioned 85% near to 100%.
How can we achieve these figures stably, several times during the year?
- By mental situation exercises which remain near the limit of strain all the time;
- The limit trainings are relocated from the gym to national and international tournaments with less priority where the goal is to reach maximal physical and mental strain under contest circumstances;
- By the increase of fights and entering more categories, the physical and mental endurance develops in lively atmosphere, moreover, the quick power and power-endurance can be developed rapidly;
- By continuous fighting trainings, using fighters of similar abilities, same amount of training and strain, they achieve this level by themselves as they do prestige fights with each other.
By these methods – certainly these are examples of many – I can assume to miss the long, even 2-3 month long winter base training of the contestants. Certainly, these professional thoughts are not for advice, they are only notes for centric training works. I am waiting for your remarks!

Good thread. Cheers!!
Really insightful information and I couldnt agree more. I have stuck to a very similar format for as long as I can remember and really applied myself in the last two years and can feel great benefits. Unforunately I feel that training at this high level does not provide great longevity in the sport for athletes and I find that many top performers can only hold on for a number of years before injuries or motivation prevents them. What do you think? This post is from an athelete who has performed at a high level for over 20 years and finds it a lot harder than I used to!!!!!!!
Kind regards
Awesome post. Thanks!
